Bounty

There's something you need to know before I go on to today's post. My father is a winner. Almost any time he enters a giveaway, calls in to a radio station, you name it, he wins. Ashley and I got to go to a Backstreet Boys concert back when they were cool because of that. My mother, on the other hand, has the luck of a 2-leaf clover. She can't win a thing to save her life.

I'm somewhere in between.

If I try to win, I don't. But boy do I get a lot of free stuff.

For example, when Justin and I got married, the only furniture we bought was a bed. Everything else we got free, either from Ashley and Zach or from various members of Justin's ward. We didn't buy any entertainment sources (TV from my friend Allison, DVD and VCR from somewhere, stereo I already had... you get it).

This continues happening every so often. It's pretty much the most awesome thing ever.

Today, Justin had a Career Fair for Supply Chain Management Majors. He's on the SCMA (Supply Chain Management Association) executive board, so he helps with set up, take down, and generally just helping out where he's needed. After the actual Fair part of the evening (which went quite well... next up will be a series of interviews for him, then hopefully we'll know where he'll be working after we graduate!), a lot of the companies were trying to get rid of some of the stuff they brought to give away. They don't want to pay to fly it back to their headquarters. That's how we came into possession of the following:

Fruit: Honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, grapes, papaya (yes, papaya) - all pre-cut
Vegetables: Zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, green and red bellpeppers, cherry tomatoes (already ate all those) - all pre-cut
Cheese tray: 6 different kinds of cheese (cut into nice triangles) and a cream cheese dip
And that's just the perishables. Moving on to non-perishables...

Behold, the bounty. Too much stuff? Too hard to see? How about some close-ups?

A box of waterbottles and a box of 12 boxes of French Vanilla hot cocoa

A box of popcorn and another box of 12 boxes of hot cocoa

Three layers of chips (what you see is just 1 layer)

Sunflower seeds

Crunch n' Munch and more popcorn
That's the food. Oh, did you think I was done? Not quite. One more picture:

The non-food items.
It's a bit hard to see what all is there: more water, bandaids, blister pads, a yo-yo, chocolate, sponge-scrubby things, Scotch's version of Sham-Wow, 2 things of tape, ear plugs, post-it note flags (4 packs), wall mount hooks, 2 power bars, 2 bags, a fabric cupholder, and a pen.

Yeah, we cleaned up. Did I mention how awesome it is to have a husband who helps clean up? Oh the blessings of service.

P.S. Don't worry, we plan on sharing.

P.P.S. Alison, one of the things I thought of that I never do: take pictures. How's this? :)

I like the pictures! And I'm quite jealous of your 'clean up'. But all admit I helped out with a golf tournament this weekend and brought back some delicious food that was leftover from the breakfast and lunch they served. Service is wonderful.

I'm not much of a winner in raffles, but I did win a basketball the other day at a free lunch! It totally made my day. Btw, I'm pretty sure it's you who loves trying different Nutella recipes? If so, I found this really good looking one maybe you'll want to try out: http://bakemeblush.blogspot.com/2011/09/lets-call-it-breakfast.html. If you do try it, let me know how it turns out!
